As suggested by the study by the Center for the Governance of Change of the IE University of Spain, at least 7,5 million Spaniards own cryptocurrencies - and more specifically Bitcoins - which represents 16% of the current population of the country.
Under the name of "Cryptocurrencies and the future of money", the study also highlights that 81,7% of Spaniards know cryptocurrencies, but only 16% of the population owns Bitcoins at this time.
Of these 7,5 million, more than 60% have bought cryptocurrencies as an investment and speculation mechanism, while 12,8% declare they use them to buy goods and services.
From our opinion, the percentage of people who use cryptocurrencies as a payment method (almost 13%) seems really high to us, which is possibly a value that has been inflated by the modesty generated in people recognizing that a good has been bought just to speculate.
Profile of Spanish with cryptocurrencies
The average Spanish citizen who owns cryptocurrencies would be a male between 18 and 34 years old with a high annual economic income, which would go between the 100.000 to more than 500.000 euros.
